The Porsche 911 story started with the 1964 901/911
prototype, a car designed to continue where the Porsche
356 left off.
The new car was intended to be faster, more luxurious,
spacious and have improved handling characteristics.
Part of the beauty of the 911 comes in the knowledge
of its unconventional engine positioning. The extreme
rearward placing of the engine is something no other
mass manufacturer has attempted, never mind perfected.
The 911's DNA remains unchanged to this day - part of
the reason why the car is included in the most beautiful
designs of all time.
Over the year Porsche has released countless variants
and model of the 911 ranging from convertibles, coupes,
Targa tops, 4 wheel drive and turbo charged, to name
but a few, but every single car can be traced back to
the 901/911 from 1964.
Porsche's refusal to deviate from the original concept
has allowed them to improve the 911's characteristics
over many years.
In true German fashion, Porsche choose to make minuscule
alterations each year slightly improving the car step
by step - probably until absolute perfection is achieved.
