Activated Carbon Canister

An activated carbon canister is a filter used in automotive applications to reduce harmful emissions.

The activated carbon canister is positioned to trap fuel vapors coming from the fuel tank when the engine is not running. When the engine is running, air is pushed through the filter which forces the vapors into the engine where it is combusted.

The activated carbon canister is also known as an activated charcoal trap or a charcoal canister.
