Air Brake

An air brake can take different forms but the two most common varieties are described here.

- An air brake is a braking system which can be found on large commercial trucks. In this form the air brake is a system which uses compressed air to push a brake piston or diaphragm to actuate the brake.

- An air brake can also describe a movable panel which can be deployed to increase the air drag around a vehicle and help slow it down. This type of air brake is usually found on aircraft, however similar systems are used on some high-end sports cars to help slow the vehicle and increase downforce during extreme braking maneuvers.
