Antifreeze
Antifreeze, sometimes called coolant, is a substance added
to water, particularly in automobile cooling systems, to prevent
ice forming in cold weather. The additive most commonly used
is ethylene glycol; methanol and ethanol tend to need more
frequent replacement, being much more volatile.
The correct antifreeze to water ratio is essential, especially
in colder climates to prevent ice forming in the coolant system
and in the worst case scenarios causing the engine block to
crack due to ice expansion.
