Beltline (vehicle)

Car Beltline
The beltline, also known (in the UK) as the waistline, is the horizontal or slightly inclined line below the side windows of a vehicle, starting from the hood and running to the trunk. It separates the glass area (see greenhouse) from the lower body. The beltline is an important element in a vehicle's styling, its position and inclination influencing not only the visual appeal of a car, but also its perceived character and stance. A low beltline, and correspondingly tall greenhouse, may suggest elegance or modernity; a high beltline gives a more aggressive look. The wedge appearance, which has been in vogue for some time, is emphasized by a rising beltline.

Additional Information by Allan Flowers:
Your photo describing the "beltline" of the vehicle is incorrect in that it highlights the FEATURE LINE going through below the beltline, rather than the actual edge of the door/glass.

Some beltlines turn inward and do not necessarily continue into the front fender or rear quarter.
