Body-on-frame
Body-on-frame
is the traditional automotive construction technique in which
the body structure, including doors, quarter panels, roof,
front fenders, hood, trunk, etc., is attached to a separate
frame bearing the powertrain and suspension components. A body-on-frame construction
is strong and rigid but also heavy. It has been almost universally
superseded by unibody construction.
