Clutch
The
clutch is a device placed between the rotating part of an
engine and the drive shaft to enable their quick connection
or disconnection. In a car with manual transmission, a clutch,
operated by the driver by pushing the clutch pedal, is used
to temporarily disengage the transmission from the flywheel
on the engine in order to change gears. Usually an automotive
clutch consists of two plates which spin on two separate rotors.
When these plates are pushed together, the rotors are forced
to spin at the same speed. There are also fluid clutches.
