Destroked
Engine
A
destroked engine is one with a shorter throw crankshaft, or,
other words, one in which the stroke of the pistons is reduced.
Destroking may be done to increase an engine's maximum RPM ability
or to satisfy racing restrictions on engine size. For example
a 400 cu. in. engine could be destroked to 350 cu. in. by
fitting a 350 cranksaft. This could enable a vehicle with
an otherwise too-large engine to compete in a, say, a Trans
Am class race. Generally speaking, destroking an engine has
the effect of reducing the power output.
