called an engine management system or an engine control module,
an electronic control unit that manages and regulates the
ignition timing, the amount of fuel delivered
to the cylinders, and other factors involving in the optimal
running of an internal combustion engine. Modern
ECUs utilize a variety of sensors to feed real-time data into
a microprocessor. In advanced forms, their functions may extend
well beyond that of engine performance, to include interfaces
with an automatic transmission, cruise control, ABS, etc.
