Generations
(of vehicle models)
As
a manufacturers model gets older its design changes from year
to year. Most years the changes are quite small and are used
to keep the overall appearance fresh and up-to-date. However
every few years, usually somewhere between 5-10 ( it has been
alot more in some cases), a new Generation is created. This
will usually involve an entirely new chassis, body, engine,
electrics, interior, in short a completley new car. But one
which still shares the same manufacturers model name as the
car which came the year before.
Generations begin with the first generation (Generation I)
rising to the second generation (Generation II) and so on.
Sometimes manufacturers will assign a number or letter to
a model name to indicate its generation. Porsche for example.
In 2006 they revealed the 997 generation of the famous 911
Turbo, before that came the 996 version, and before that the
993 version.
