Hood Scoop
Also
called a bonnet scoop (in the UK), a hood scoop is a raised
structure and air vent on the hood (bonnet) of an automobile
that funnels air directly into the engine compartment to improve
engine performance, or provide additional cooling. Hood scoops
were introduced on early American muscle cars as a way of
directing more air onto the carburetors. Purely decorative hood scoops are closed
and fitted simply to give a car a high-performance look.
