Hydrocarbons

Chemical compounds that contain only the elements carbon (C) and hydrogen (H). A variety of hydrocarbons comprise the energy-rich mixture in gasoline or diesel fuel. Upon combustion of these fuels, there is a residue of hydrocarbon emissions. These emissions pose a threat to people and the environment at large and are subject to statutory controls. They are almost completely eliminated in a catalytic converter.
