Intake
Manifold
The
intake manifold, or as it is sometimes called, inlet manifold
is the ducting that distributes air (in port fuel-injected
systems) or air/fuel mixture (in carbureted and throttle-body
injected systems) to pass into the appropriate engine cylinders prior to combustion. Simply explained the intake manifold is
the pipe work through which the engine brings air and fuel
into itself, the exhaust manifold is the opposite, it guides spent
air out of the engine and into the exhaust pipe.
