Lean Combustion Limit

The lean combustion limit is the point at which combustion may not occur because the fuel-air mixture contains too little fuel, resulting in misfires and increased hydrocarbon emissions. Engine operation with a "lean" fuel-air mixture (using as little fuel as possible) reduces nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbon emissions and improves fuel efficiency.
