Naturally Aspirated (engine)

A naturally aspirated engine is one which gets its air supply at a pressure consistent with the atmospheric conditions in which it is being ran. It does not use a turbocharger, supercharger, or forced 'ram-air' induction to increase the amount of air in the combustion chamber. Most regular family cars are naturally aspirated, and there there are also some top level sports cars which also rely on natural aspiration. Two benefits of natural aspiration are that it is easy on the engine which prolongs life, and also power and torque delivery is usually more progressive and steady. Especially when compared to turbocharged engines.
