Oversteer

Oversteer, in an automobile, occurs when the rear tires experience a loss of traction during a corner, causing the rear of the vehicle to head towards the outside of the corner. A more technically correct definition of oversteer is that the slip angle of the rear tires has exceeded that of the front tires. Rear wheel drive cars are generally more prone to oversteer, in particular when applying power in a tight corner. Oversteer in front wheel drive cars can be induced by braking or lifting off the accelerator mid corner, this shifts weight to the front of the car and therefore reduces traction on the rear wheels causing 'lift-off-oversteer'. Lift off oversteer can usually be corrected by applying more power, reversing the weight shift and returning traction to the rear wheels.
