A
rear obstacle warning system is a system that alerts the driver
to unseen objects behind the vehicle when reversing. Sensors
mounted in the rear bumper detect the presence of nearby objects.
A tone or warning lights signal the distance to these objects.
Some systems also warn of nearby objects in front.
