Seat
Belt
A
seat belt is a safety harness that is part of an automobile's
passive safety system. The main purpose of a seat belt is
to help reduce injuries by preventing the wearer from slamming
into hard objects and surfaces inside a vehicle, and from
being thrown out of the vehicle, during an impact or severe
deceleration. The seat belt also keeps the wearer in the correct
position for an airbag to deploy. The standard three-point
seat belt has three mountings: one on either side of the occupant's
lap and one behind the shoulder, which is attached either
to the seat or the car's body.
