Starter
Motor

An electric motor that sets the engine in motion by rotating
the flywheel and thereby the crankshaft. When the ignition key is turned to the
start position, the starter solenoid, which is connected to
the starter motor, delivers electric current from the battery to the motor. At the end of the starter motor
are gear teeth which mesh with teeth around the rim of the
flywheel. As the flywheel starts spinning so does the crankshaft
to which it is joined, causing the pistons to move up and down as well as the ignition system to operate. The downward action
of the pistons sucks the air/fuel mixture into the cylinders and the four-stroke cycle takes over. As soon
as the engine has started, the starter motor disengages.
