Supercharger
A
supercharger, also known colloquially as a blower, is an air
compressor designed to force compressed air into an engine's
cylinders, and thereby supply a higher density of oxygen to
the air-fuel mixture. Supercharging, one of several types
of forced induction, uses power from the crankshaft to compress
the air. There are two main types of supercharger. The Roots
blower is mounted on top of the engine, and is popular in
builders of ProStreet cars. The Paxton-type supercharger is
mounted to the side of the engine, and are sometimes found
in production cars.
