Unibody
Construction
unibody
construction is the modern automotive construction technique
of mating the exterior body panels to a floorboard that doubles
as a stressed frame. To the integrated floor-frame are bolted
all the power train and suspension elements. Unibody (or unitary)
construction provides strength and, because the body panels
are stressed structural members, lower overall vehicle weight
than the older body-on-frame construction approach. See also
monocoque.
