The engineers at German tuning firm 9ff have produced some of
the most outrageous and capable customized Porsche's in the
world - including the insane 9ff
GT9.
The 9ff Speed9 is a little more refined and mainstream than
its big brother, but it is by no means a mildly modified vehicle.
By taking their inspiration from a range of past Porsche convertibles
including the Porsche 356 / 1500S Speedster from 1955, the
Porsche 911 Speedster from 1989, and the Porsche 964 Speedster
of 1993, the team at 9ff have completely redesigned the 997
Turbo Cabriolet.
Changes include a shorter windscreen - typical of the speedster
models, revised front and rear bumpers, deeper sideskirts, and
a larger rear panel for hiding away the convertible roof when
down.
As you'd expect from a company like 9ff, the Speed9 conversion
doesn't just consist of a few bits of plastic stuck on a standard
911 Turbo. They've also given the engine a thorough workout
and the twin-turbo flat-six cylinder now pumps out 650 horsepower
- around 180 hp up on the 'basic' 997 Turbo. Torque
output stands at a mighty 890 Nm @ 2,850 rpm.
This significant hike in power is due to a number of engine
enhancements including a pair of 9ff F650 VTG turbochargers,
a sports catalytic
converter, stainless steel exhaust
manifold, sports air
filter, and reprogrammed ECU.
To match the new performance levels of the engine, the Speed9's
chassis has been worked over and now features adjustable stabilizers
at the front axle and rear axle, double springs and 4 aluminum
spring plates. The brakes have also been upgraded and now consist
of 380mm carbon composite discs (up front) and 6-piston calipers.
