Despite the fact Mercedes have a new supercar now in the form
of the SLS, and the SLR has been out of production since
2009, the German tuning firm edo Competition has developed a
tuning program for the car. Quite rightfully so of course.
The Edo Competition Mercedes-Benz SLR Black Shadow features
both enhancements to the drivetrain and bodywork. Wearing matt
black paintwork the car looks particularly sinister. The color
of the bodywork is matched by the 21 inch racing wheels and
a retrimmed interior with black and carbon fiber trim. The cabin
is further accented with a new custom sound system featuring
navigation, phone, TV and iPod integration as well as a reversing
camera.
The 5.5 litre supercharged V8 of the Edo Competition Mercedes-Benz
Black Shadow now produces 722 horsepower at 7,100 rpm and 890
Nm (656 ft-lbs) of torque. The hike in power was made
possible due to a revised intake system, new exhaust headers,
high flow catalytic converters and air filters, and a remapped
ECU to take full advantage of all the new hardware.
The performance figures for the Edo Competition Mercedes-Benz
Black Shadow are impressive. It takes just 3.4 seconds to break
past 60 mph, and at full speed you'll be covering 214 miles
every hour.
