So what do you do if you're obscenely wealthy and want to design
your own sports car? You could start from scratch and hire a
team of designers and engineers to make your dream vehicle,
but this is extremely expensive and very risky. However, thanks
to the Ferrari Special Projects program there's now another
option available.
Essentially what the Ferrari Special Projects program does is
allow clients to help in the design and development of their
very own Ferrari. Sadly however money can't buy taste, and this
is desperately obvious when looking at the P540 Superfast Aperta.
And who calls their car the "Superfast" - it's like
a kid named it.
Based on the gorgeous Ferrari 599, essentially the P540 Superfast
Aperta is an open top version with a range of styling tweeks
and changes - almost all of them for the worse. At the rear
the car gets an awkward set of arches and decklid and a massive
rear overhang. There's no doubt the car gets some of its styling
inspiration from the 1965 Ferrari 250GT. However the fact the
owner, Edward Walson, son of John Walson, the inventor of cable
TV is an American is probably the reason the Ferrari P540 Superfast
Aperta has so many Corvette-like styling cues instead. Now corvettes
are great looking cars in their own right, but combining them
with Ferrari lines is not something that should be attempted
by anyone outside the cheap kitcar circuit.
Powering the Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta is a front-mid mounted
6.0 litre V12 which produces 620 horsepower @ 7,600 rpm, this
is connected to an F1-style sequential 6-speed transmission
driving the rear wheels.
Thankfully the P540 Superfast Aperta is a one off creation,
so your chances of seeing it are limited.

Ferrari p540 Super Fast Aperta is usually in storage in Scottsdale
Arizona. Although it was just recently sent back to Italy to
fix the roof that did not seal correctly . Five million dollars
to build. And your right.....it isn't that cool.
