There are currently 2 Lamborghini Gallardo's performing duties
for the Italian State Police (Polizia di Stato).
Back
in 2004 the first police spec Gallardo was donated by Lamborghini.
The second was purchased by the Police force in 2005. The V10,
500 bhp 190 mph Gallardo has been painted and configured in
the colors of the Italian state police, including a siren and
flashing lights on the roof.
The first Lamborghini Gallardo police car is used on the Salerno-Reggio
Calabria highway in Southern Italy to attend emergency situations.
The well equipped cars come with apparatus to transmit and receive
information and images in critical situations such as road traffic
accidents, fires and other disaster situations. They are also
fitted with the Italian polices' Provida system which records
traffic violations and sends images in real-time, and has a
direct connection to the police database as well as the Elsag
‘Autodetector’ system for number plate recognition.
As well as law enforcement equipment, the police Gallardo is
fitted with first aid equipment including defibrillator apparatus
with the capability to perform electrocardiograms, and automatic
diagnosis of arterial pressure and the presence of oxygen and
carbon dioxide in the blood. The police Gallardo will also be
used for the transportation of plasma and human organs for transplant,
a field where speedy delivery is essential.
During winter the police Gallardo will be fitted with special
‘Sottozero’ snow tyres specially developed by Pirelli for Lamborghini,
coupled with the Gallardo's permanent four wheel drive, the
car will be more practical than you may think, allowing it to
run all year round.
