SR Auto Group, based in Vancouver, Canada are a tuning outfit
who specialize in upgrades for various luxury European marques
- but they're particularly keen on the German makers like BMW,
Audi and Mercedes.
The Audi S5 Typhon is their latest project - and no I didn't
spell Typhoon wrong. The car gets its name from Typhon, an ancient
Greek god who was said to be the father of all monsters.
The SR Auto Group Audi S5 Typhon's most noticeable feature is
the matte black vinyl wrap for the bodywork. This stealth look
has become immensely popular of late, and for some reason Audi's
seem to wear it particularly well. Matching the sinister bodywork
is a set of satin black 20" wheels from ADV1.
Some of the new bodypanels for the SR Auto Group Audi S5 Typhon
actually come courtesy of another tuning firm, Reiger, who supply
the car's front lip spoiler and roof spoiler. The carbon fiber
rear diffuser was developed by SR.
With the help of an upgraded coilover suspension system from
H&R, SR have lowered the S5 neatly over its massive wheels.
Although with 20" rims sitting so close to the bodywork,
the overall ride quality may have suffered to some extent.
SR have also fiddled with the Audi S5 Typhon's drivetrain and
tried to coax out a bit more power from the 4.2 litre V8. They've
done this with the addition of a Milltek sports exhaust system
and a ECU upgrade. Unfortunately SR haven't said what the improvements
add up to in terms of power or performance. But the standard
S5 has 354 hp, so you probably add another 20-30 hp onto that
figure.
