The Global Green Challenge - an evolution of the World
Solar Challenge - is the world's leading, cross-continental
race featuring the latest advances in hybrid, electric,
solar, low emission, and alternative energy vehicles.
Held annually in Australia, the event caters for two classes
of racer. 'The World Solar Challenge' is dedicated to
solar-powered vehicles. While 'The Eco Challenge' is designed
for environmentally friendly production and experimental
vehicles of all types.
The race route takes the participants from Darwin to Adelaide
and covers 3,000km (1,864 miles). The 2009 race - which
began on the 25th October and ends on the 31st October
- features 32 teams from all over the world.
Currently with more than half the race concluded it is
the number 60 car from Japan's Tokai University who are
leading the World Solar Challenge race - with no signs
of slowing!
