Ferrari", 10th September 2009

The Fiat Abarth 695 "Tributo Ferrari" is a special
edition model developed together by Fiat and Ferrari.
The press release says the vehicle "confirms the
link between Abarth and Ferrari based on shared values
that include a passion for performance, a racing soul,
attention to detail and Italian style." Chances
are its more like a marketing tactic designed to make
Fiat 500 drivers somehow think they're actually behind
the wheel of a Ferrari. But either way it can't be denied
that the Ferrari-red paintwork and graphite racing stripes
don't suit the little 500.
Thankfully is not just all show. Fiat's engineers have
had a tinker with the drivetrain and the 1.4 litre, turbocharged,
16v engine is tuned to develop over 180 horsepower. This
is connected to a MTA (Manual Transmission Automated)
electromechanical gearbox with race-inspired paddle gearshift.
To improve acceleration, the Abarth 695 "Tributo
Ferrari" is fitted with performance tyres on 17''
alloy wheels featuring a design inspired by Ferrari wheels.
The suspension and braking systems have also been upgraded
to cope with the extra power: 284 mm ventilated discs
with fixed four-piston calipers, both by Brembo, and special
shock absorbers.
