As much of the world struggles to extricate itself from the financial meltdown like a woolly mammoth from a prehistoric tar pit, many homeowners around the globe are finding it difficult to sell their property, due to a scarcity of buyers and a glut of bargain-priced repossessed homes. In order to make their offering stand out from the crowd, some sellers in England have resorted to using hired supercars and luxury marques in order to make their property more appealing.
Over the years, and even before the recession, there have been a number of cases across the globe where sellers have thrown in the keys to their daily driver as a sweetener; including one instance where a low-mileage Ferrari 355 came gratis with a four-bedroom family home in the UK, and another where a Lamborghini Gallardo Sypyer came free with a six-bedroom mansion. There have been less appetizing offers too, including a budget Ford Ka bundled with a four-bedroom house purchase.
However the latest trend is not to give away free cars in an attempt to woo potential buyers. Instead, some sellers in England are hiring supercars, just for the day, to put outside their house during viewings in order to give the impression of success and wealth in the area. It plants a seed of confidence in the buyer’s mind that; “perhaps after living here for a couple years I too might be able to afford an Aston. I’ve already got the house!”
Now obviously having your home in good condition, clean and tidy, with a sensible asking price is still the most effective way of making sure your property doesn’t sit on the market for the next decade. But when the market is as fiercely competitive as it is, every little bit can help – especially for sellers in high-priced areas where extreme displays of wealth are not only commonplace, they’re expected.
