For 2012 Audi has given the A5 and S5 a mid-life refresh which brings in new styling elements – mainly involving new headlights and taillights, and new powertrain options.
The Audi S5 coupe’s 4.2 litre V8 engine will be dropped for 2012, and the only engine offered will be a turbocharged 3.0 litre unit producing 333 horsepower. The smaller engine offers a 20 per cent improvement on fuel economy, while also getting the car to 62 mph (100 km/h) 0.2 seconds faster. It’s a rare win-win for both the driver and the environment.
The styling updates for the 2012 Audi S5 include new lights, minor body details and new crystal-effect paint finishes. Subtle changes can also be found in the interior. The most important technical updates for the Audi S5 are quattro drive with the crown-gear center differential and electromechanical power steering. The special S sport suspension and the standard 18-inch wheels deliver the power to the road.
These changes are set to make an appearance in Europe for the 2012 model year. US customers won’t get the updated model until 2013.
