The German tuning firm ABT Sportsline, who offer customisation for almost every Volkswagen/Audi model, have decided to focus some attention on the new, new Beetle and develop a unique bodywork package and performance upgrades for every engine option.
ABT Sportsline has been tuning Beetles for many years, but this is the very first customisation option for the all-new 2012 Beetle. ABT have rightly decided to extend on the more-aggressive styling theme brought in by Volkswagen for the 2012 Beetle. Of course no Beetle is going to look particularly sinister or menacing, but The ABT Sportsline Beetle does manage to convey a distinctively sporty vibe which doesn’t look like it has been forced onto the car.
ABT Sportsline’s boss, Hans-Jürgen Abt, explained the goal of the 2012 Beetle’s Speedle tuning package: “With regards to performance improvements we can only look at combining maximum enjoyment with maximum reliability and everyday usability in balanced ABT POWER packages”.
That means ABT Sportsline haven’t gone completely crazy with the power gains. Below are the engine options and the power improvement ABT hope to achieve.
1.6 litre diesel engine:
Standard power – 105 hp
After ABT tuning – 125 hp
2.0 litre diesel engine:
Standard power – 140 hp
After ABT tuning – 170 hp
1.2 litre TSI engine:
Standard power – 105 hp
After ABT tuning – 140 hp
1.4 TSI engine:
Standard power – 160 hp
After ABT tuning – 210 hp
2.0 litre Turbo engine
Standard power – 200 hp
After ABT tuning – 230-240 hp
To make the ABT Sportsline VW Beetle stand out, the car is fitted with a new front spoiler, rear bumper insert, rear bumper set with new oval exhaust pipes, sideskirts and headlight cowls. On top of that, the car is fitted with lowered suspension and 19-inch ABT CR wheels wrapped in high-performance rubber.
