Husqvarna Nuda 900 R

Husqvarna Nuda 900 R

As promised, based on the sketches Husqvarna released in May, the company has now released the details on their first purpose-built street bike. Called the Husqvarna Nuda 900 R, the new bike is designed to be light and easy to handle. Like the off-road racing machines Husqvarna is famous for, the Nuda 900 R will feature top-shelf components like Sachs forks, a fully adjustable Ohlins rear shock absorber, Brembo brakes, a sports exhaust and carbon fiber details.

Powering the Husqvarna Nuda 900 R is a 900cc parallel twin engine which produces just over 100 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque. The engine was actually developed by BMW and is a variation on the unit used in the BMW F800R. This is due to the fact Husqvarna is a subsidiary of the Bavarian giant.

For the Husqvarna 900 R, BMW’s engineers increased the engine capacity to 900cc, while also upgrading many of the internal components – resulting in a more power and a more aggressive, racing character.

The styling of the Husqvarna Nuda 900 R is very simple and minimalist. Husqvarna has imbued the bike with a healthy dose of Italian style. Most of which comes courtesy of Raffaele Zaccagnini, the Italian designer who oversaw the bike’s styling from the Centrostile design studio in Mordano, Italy. Other influences for the Nuda 900 R include the Husqvarna Mille 3 concept from last year – although thankfully they ditched the odd supermoto-come-dragbike layout.

Husqvarna are promising that the Nuda 900 R will be followed in the near future with more dedicated road bikes. The Nuda 900R will be in showrooms by the end of 2011.
