At this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show – which will open its doors in about 6 weeks time – Mazda are set to unveil the all-new CX-5 compact crossover. The CX-5 is the first of a new generation of Mazda vehicles that will feature the full range of Mazda’s SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the new design theme, ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’.
The Mazda CX-5 will feature both gasoline and diesel SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY engines, and the model will be progressively rolled out accoss global markets starting early 2012.
The engine line-up for the European specification Mazda CX-5 will include Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine and SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel engine, which will be available in Standard Power and High Power versions. Each engine has a record-breaking compression ratio of 14:1 for ideal efficiency. Mazda’s engineers focused on achieving exceptional environmental performance for a compact SUV and targeted CO2 emissions of less than 120g/km for the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 engined model.
The CX-5 is also the first production car to feature Mazda’s new design theme, ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’, which was previewed with the Mazda Shinari and Mazda Minagi concept cars – the Minagi was in fact the concept version of the CX-5.
Unique themes of the KODO design theme include a prominent new frontal treatment with a bolder Mazda family face and more dynamic styling that conveys a strong sense of vitality and agility.
