The Volkswagen Buggy Up! from 2011 was inspired by the Beetle-based Volkswagen Buggies which started appearing in the 1960s. However the styling is based on Volkswagen’s most recent models. The Buggy Up! is slightly longer, wider and lower than the standard Up!, measurements which suit the car’s character.
In order to compensate for the loss in chassis strength due to the lack of a roof, Volkswagen’s engineers have put additional structural reinforcements where the doors once were, and also added a functional roll bar behind the seats.
The flimsy canvas roof is designed to act as more of a sun shade than a rain guard. Because of this, the interior of the Volkswagen Buggy Up! has been cleverly designed to be 100 per cent waterproof.
