2013 Audi A6 Allroad Quattro

2012 Audi A6 Allroad

When it comes to luxury soft-roaders, there isn’t a whole load of choice out there. But thankfully, because of the Audi A6 Allroad Quattro, there is at least one vehicle which should tick all the boxes. When compared to the standard A6, the slightly-ruggedized A6 Allroad Quattro features different bumpers, wheel arch extensions, stainless steel scuff plates on the lower edges of the front and rear bumpers, and a bigger roof rack. However the most important off-road modification is the adaptive air suspension that lowers the ride height by 15 mm (0.59 inches) at higher speeds, raises it by 35 mm (1.38 inches) at the touch of a button, and raises it by a further 10 mm (0.39 inches) at low speeds in a special ‘lift’ mode.

When it goes on sale in Europe in spring, the Audi A6 Allroad Quattro will be available with a choice of one TFSI gasoline engine, and three TDI diesel engines.

The 3.0 TFSI, which is force-fed by a mechanically driven supercharger, produces 310 horsepower and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque. It powers the A6 allroad quattro from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.9 seconds on the way to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. Its combined fuel economy figure is 31.7mpg.

All three diesel engines are based on Audi’s 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine. Their power outputs range from 204 hp, 245 hp and in the case of the twin-turbocharged variant, 313 hp. The most powerful engine is connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission, allowing for a 0-62 mph sprint time of just 5.6 seconds, and an electronically regulated 155 mph tops speed.

The other engines, including the TFSI unit, are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In the UK, where the pricing has been announced, and it starts at £43,145, the Audi A6 Allroad Quattro will initially be offered with just three engine options. The top-spec diesel may make an appearance later on.

Audi still haven’t confirmed whether they’ll be bringing the A6 Allroad Quattro to the Stateside.

Air lift suspension type stuff equals muy expensive repairs. Fancy nonetheless.
