The Volkswagen E-Bugster concept is fitted with a 114 horsepower electric motor coupled to a lithium-ion battery fitted under the rear seat and trunk floor. It offers a 100-mile range, and can be recharged through various outlets, including standard household sockets and dedicated fast chargers. With the ‘level 3’ quick charger the E-Bugster can take on board an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes.
The only other exterior modifications to the E-Bugster concept over the normal Beeltle are some revised front and rear bumpers. On the inside the alterations are just as minimal. The dash display has been changed to include an ‘energy consumption display’ instead of a tachometer, and additional gauges have been added to display information regarding the battery charge, range and electricity generation through braking.
Don’t expect to see the E-Bugster for sale in your local Volkswagen dealership any time soon.
