Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT is not, as you might have understandably guessed, a hardcore version of the SLS AMG. It is the replacement SLS AMG. In addition to the two extra letters tacked onto its name, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT also gets a power boost, tweaked transmission and suspension systems, and an updated interior with new trim options.

Obviously the most important update is the added power. So we’ll start there. The 6.3 litre V8 remains largely unmolested save for some ‘internal dethrottling measures’ and an increase in combustion pressure. That releases an extra 20 horsepower from the engine taking the total to 583 horsepower. The torque figure remains unchanged at 479 lb-ft (649 Nm). But the 0-60 mph time drops a fraction, literally, from 3.7 seconds to 3.6 seconds. The top speed is electronically capped at 197 mph.

Further performance improvements come courtesy of an updated AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. Thanks to some new software and optimised transmission controls, it has been possible to shorten reaction time significantly during shifts. The automatic double-declutching function when downshifting is also more pronounced in the SLS AMG GT. This is due to a modified engine mapping profile that changes the engine torque delivered in manual mode.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT also benefits from the newly developed AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension system. Compared with the AMG Adaptive Suspension from the 2012 Model Year SLS AMG, the new AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension for the SLS AMG GT features stiffer and more aggressive spring/damper settings designed to test even the best denture adhesives – especially in “Sport Plus” mode.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz ALS AMG GT can now be ordered with a ‘AMG designo STYLE package’. This option is available in three different color combinations in both single and two-tone finishes. It features a distinctive upholstery design featuring full designo leather with a contrast stitching and a luxurious diamond quilt design on the seats and door panel inserts.

Other highlights include designo leather for the entire dashboard, the beltlines, door armrests and the handrest on the centre console. AMG floor mats are in black with porcelain leather edging and the roof lining and parcel shelf (Coupe) or roll-over bar (Roadster) are finished in porcelain Alcantara. The seat piping is finished in contrasting colors. Available color combinations include mocha brown/porcelain, titanium grey/porcelain and mystic red/porcelain.

Other optional extras for the 2013 SLS AMG GT include:
– AMG carbon-fiber exterior mirrors
– AMG carbon-fiber engine compartment covers
– AMG Interior Carbon-Fiber package (carbon-fiber trim, trim on seat backrest and side, door sill panels)
– AMG carbon ceramic high-performance composite braking system
– AMG Performance Media
– AMG 10-spoke forged wheels in additional colors
– AMG carbon-fiber interior trim
– Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG surround sound system
