Video: Brutal Crash During Practice Session for 2012 Summer X Games

2012 Summer X Games crash Toomas Heikkinen

Toomas Heikkenen, a 21-year old Finnish RallyCross driver, didn’t quite make it across the 50-foot gap during a practice session for the 2012 Summer X Games. Heikkenen’s Ford Fiesta rally car savagely nosedives into the edge of the landing ramp, flips over and then falls crudely to the floor landing upside down. To make matters worse the car then bursts into flames with Heikkenen still strapped into his now-inverted seat.

Thankfully he manages to extricate himself from the car before the flames get too serious. Unfortunately he didn’t escape the crash unhurt. News reports state he suffered a broken ankle and abdominal injuries. The crash and his subsequent injuries mean Heikkenen will not compete in the X Games RallyCross finals on Sunday.

    Godspeed in his recovery.

Look at those audience. Picture over the safety of the driver. What a corrupted spirit of motorsports. That’s why I like to watch WRC; audience is closer and more kind-spirited.
