MG have been slowly increasing their lineup over the past few years after their 2005 purchase and revival by the Chinese company Nanjing Automobile Group. That growth is set to continue, according to Auto Express, with the arrival of a new MG Roadster. However unlike every open-top MG sports car before, the new MG Roadster isn’t designed to be small and dainty. It’s a convertible crossover.
The MG Roadster is said to be based on the styling of the MG Icon concept which debuted at this year’s Beijing Motor Show. Except instead of the Icon’s fixed roof the Roadster gets a soft-top.
While the overall design of the new car is influenced by the Icon concept, it is also intended to recall some of the styling features of the MG’s most popular roadsters from the past. Namely the MGB.
Auto Express are reporting that the MG Roadster could return as early as 2015, with prices (in the UK) starting at around £14,000 ($21,800 / 18,000EUR).
