Land Rover have just launched a special edition version of their most rugged model, the Defender. The Land Rover Defender XTech is more of a cosmetic package than a serious off-road makeover. 16-inch gloss black wheels are coupled with MTR off-road tires giving the XTech a slight advantage over the standard Defender, especially when the road ends.
The Defender XTech is available in just two colors, Orkney Grey or Nara Bronze. The roof and wheel arches are finished in contrasting Santorini Black. Black chequer plate metal protects the bumper and sills from the inevitable knocks and scrapes.
Additional details include a special ‘DEFENDER’ decal which sits above the rear LED lights, whilst the front lights are enhanced with black-colored headlamp surrounds in contrast to the body color. This distinctive front end design is complemented with a body color grille and gloss black Land Rover lettering on the bonnet. A rear step bumper assembly aids entry, exit and loading.
The inside of the Land Rover Defender XTech is treated to a half-leather ebony-colored interior with contrasting grey stitching. Land Rover’s logo is embossed onto the headrests. The central switch panel is painted in the same color as the exterior. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, electronic traction control, as well as heated seats and windscreen.
The Land Rover Defender XTech is powered by a 2.2 litre diesel engine with a six-speed manual transmission. It goes on sale in the UK from July (no word yet on other markets), and is available in either the two-door 90 Hard Top version or the four-door 110 Utility Wagon.
