As of next year, if you want, and if you have enough cash wedged into your wallet, you can order yourself a Continental GT with a V8 stuffed under the hood. Since its arrival in 2003 the Continental GT has only been available with a 6.0 litre W-12 engine. But with emissions regulations becoming increasingly strict, Bentley have had to search for ways to reduce their bad-gas output. The new 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 offers a 40 percent improvement in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.
Despite the fact the new Continental GT V8 has just two-thirds of the number of cylinders compared to its sibling, the performance is only slightly reduced. The V8 delivers a maximum of 500 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm, and 487 lb-ft (660 Nm) of torque from 1,700 – 5,000 rpm. It takes the Continental GT V8 less than five seconds to reach 60 mph, and it tops out at over 180 mph.
