Bentley Continental GT V8

As of next year, if you want, and if you have enough cash wedged into your wallet, you can order yourself a Continental GT with a V8 stuffed under the hood. Since its arrival in 2003 the Continental GT has only been available with a 6.0 litre W-12 engine. But with emissions regulations becoming increasingly strict, Bentley have had to search for ways to reduce their bad-gas output. The new 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 offers a 40 percent improvement in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.

Despite the fact the new Continental GT V8 has just two-thirds of the number of cylinders compared to its sibling, the performance is only slightly reduced. The V8 delivers a maximum of 500 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm, and 487 lb-ft (660 Nm) of torque from 1,700 – 5,000 rpm. The 2012 Bentley Continental GTC coupe is powered by a 6.0 litre W12 engine which hoofs out 567 horsepower and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. It provides enough grunt to allow the big convertible to get to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds (0.1 seconds slower than the coupe), and the top speed of 195 mph is just 3 mph off the coupe’s maximum speed.
