The Ford Cockpit was a city car concept from 1981. The Cockpit was a two seat concept with the passengers seated in tandem, and powered by a 200cc motorbike engine it had an impressive fuel consumption, 75 mpg. The engine itself was ingeniously mounted inside the single rear wheel, saving space inside the Cockpit's cabin.

A lightweight body helped considerably with fuel economy, although how safe it would have been in a collision is an entirely different matter, the roll-bar looks like a token gesture more than anything else.

The Ford Cockpit never got further than the concept stage.
