The
Fiat Coupé Turbo was introduced two years after the first non-turbo
cars were introduced in 1993. Its distinctive styling was penned
by American designer Chris Bangle, the man responsible for BMW's
controversial contemporary styling. The interior design of the
Fiat Coupe came from Pininfarina, Ferrari's design house of
choice.
On its launch, the Fiat Coupe Turbo was the fastest front wheel
drive car in Europe. And despite it being based on the Fiat
Tipo platform, Fiat's engineers managed to create a superb handling
front wheel drive sports car. In 1998 a Limited Edition version
was offered, this came with a bodykit, upgraded brakes, a six
speed gearbox, a strut brace to help reduce torque steer, Recaro
sports seats, and a race inspired push button start. The limited
edition run was originally 300, but in the end there was nearly
4 times this number.
