The Lotus Evora Type 124 Endurance Racecar is a fully FIA homologated
racer which passes all the regulations and safety standards
required for competing in various endurance races around the
world.
Based on the Evora road car the
Type 124 racecar uses the same Toyota-sourced 3.5 litre V6,
but output has been bumped up to 400 horsepower. The high-tech
and super-stiff extruded and bonded aluminium chassis of the
standard Evora proved to be perfectly suited for the racecar.
But this was no happy accident as during its development the
Evora roadcar was always designed with the racetrack in mind.
Overall weight of the Lotus Evora Type 124 Endurance Racecar
is 1200kgs (2600 lbs), a full 200 kgs (440 lbs) lighter than
the road car.
Other changes for the Type 124 include a six speed sequential
paddle shift racing gearbox, full FIA specification roll cage,
FIA-compliant 120 litre ATL fuel system and a FIA fire extinguisher
system.
The braking system has also been upgraded to handle the punishment
of hours and hours of tracktime. AP Racing 6 piston calipers
feature front and rear, backed up by a race-spec Bosch ABS system.
The suspension enhancements include 4-way adjustable dampers
and adjustable anti-roll bars.
To improve downforce
the Evora Type 124 features a carbon fibre splitter, rear diffuser,
deeper sidesills, and a competition carbon fibre rear wing.
Roger Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director for Group Lotus Plc
said, "Every Lotus car is designed to be at home on
the race track as well as the road, and the Evora is no different.
Designed primarily as an everyday road car, the Evora's lightweight
and stiff structure, its aerodynamics
and performance means that it is perfectly suited to taming
race tracks around the world..."
