The
3rd generation Mazda MX-5 comes in two forms a Roadster Coupe
and a conventional soft-top.
The exterior styling of the 2005-onwards MX-5 is similar in
design to the original while adopting a cleaner, more muscular
profile and some styling elements which reinforce the family
ties with the Mazda RX-8.
The electrically operating hard-top roof which was introduced
as an option in 2006 is as strong and light as possible, retracting
completely in 12 seconds - with no intrusion into the luggage
space. The Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe has the same lines as the
Mazda MX-5 soft-top.
In designing the MX-5 Roadster Coupe Mazda's engineers kept
the vehicle's kerb weight to a minimum. Its final weight is
only 37kg heavier than the Mazda MX-5 soft top.
