Engine electric

The Fiat Downtown concept which was debuted at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show was an unappealing and bland proposal for an electric powered city car.

The Downtown's drivetrain consisted of 2 in-wheel electric motors driving the rear wheels. The electrical power came courtesy of a rechargeable sodium sulfur battery pack. With this setup the Downtown could reach a top speed of just 62 mph. The concept's range, at a steady 31 mph, was 186 miles.

The interior of the Fiat Downtown featured a three-seat layout with the driver sitting alone up front.

Thankfully Fiat never took the Downtown project further than the prototype stage.
