The Volvo C30 concept shown at the 2006 Detroit Motor
Show is a close indication of what the production model,
due at Paris, September 2006, will look like.
Volvo developed the C30 to compete in the hotly contested
compact car market and also fill a gap in their model
lineup. The C30 has been designed for young professionals,
singles, and couples without children.
To do this Volvo listened to what their potential clients
wanted. A stylish, nimble runabout with 2 door and 4 seats
was the consensus and so is the C30.
The C30 gets some of its style from the Volvo Safety Concept
Car (SCC) and also the 3CC
concept car, while also looking to the classic P1800
ES for inspiration for the rear glass tailgate. And despite
its smaller size the car is clearly Volvo, especially
from the front and rear angles.
Powered by a 2.4 litre, 5 cylinder, turbocharged engine
making 260 horsepower running through a 6-speed manual
gearbox, the C30 Design Concept reaches 60 mph in just
6 seconds, and continues on to a limited top speed of
150 mph.
