The
Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 was produced from 1980 to 1987, although
the four cylinder Alfetta GT was in production from 1974.
The Alfetta GTV6 and GT were built on the Alfetta saloon platform.
The styling of both the GTV6 and GT was carried out by Giorgetto
Giugiaro and previewed a sharper design style than previous
Alfa Romeo models.
The Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 was powered by a fuel-injected overhead
camshaft 2.5 litre V6 which developed 160 bhp and 157 ft/lbs
of torque @ 4000 rpm. Not only did this engine give the GTV6
a 130 mph top speed, it also provided a sublime engine note
when revved. The engine was so good in fact that revised and
updated versions were used in various Alfa models for another
20 years. The transmission of the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 was
handled by a rear-mounted 5-speed manual gearbox driving the
rear wheels.
The handling of the Alfa Romeo GTV6 also benefited from improvements
to the suspension system and bigger wheels. Visually the GTV6
was superior to the GT with an enhanced interior package and
exterior trim.
The Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 is still popular amongst collectors
and enthusiasts despite its reputation for rust corrosion.
