The
GDT (Gene Dickirson Team) Speedster was a one off sportscar
built by a group of automotive proffessionals as a private project.
The team was comprised of designers, modellers, engineers and
fabricators. Powered by a Chevrolet LT1 V8 engine from the Chevrolet
Corvette, the GDT Speedster is capable of 170 mph and a 0-60
time under 6 seconds. In fact most of the drivetrain including
transmission, differential, suspension, steering and brakes
comes from the Corvette.
The design of the GDT Speedster, while no doubt original, is
not to everyones taste. The smiling front end with a hint of
Studebaker Avanti is more suited to American taste than
European. And the sweeping pronounced door line looks dated
and unattractive. However the construction and quality of fabrication
is high, and the interior trimmed in Light Oak leather has a
Spartan yet classy appearance.
The GDT Speedsters strong fabricated frame is made from rectangular
steel tubing with a wall thickness of 3.1 mm (.12 inches). The
main side rails are 51 mm wide and 152 mm high (2 inches x 6
inches). The under body and dash panel are fabricated from steel
sheet fully welded to the frame rails. And to top it off, all
welding was done by aerospace/military certified welders.
The one of a kind GDT Speedster will be going up for auction
late in 2006. Minimum bid is $350,000 USD (£200,000).
