In
2004 Porsche's most powerful 911 model, the GT2, received a
performance upgrade. This was done by making adjustments to
the electronic engine management system (prior to 2004 the GT2's
output was 456 bhp). The front and rear suspension was also
revised and the car was equipped with the new wheels from the
911 GT3.
The lightweight 911 GT2 comes standard with carbon-ceramic brakes
which weigh 50% less than standard steel units and offer an
overall saving of 18 kilograms. The prominent carbon fibre rear
wing can be matched to the body color or left unpainted at the
buyers request. The door mirrors can also be left unpainted
showing their carbon-fibre origins.
Like the less extreme Porsche 911 GT3, the GT2's engine is a derivation
of the engine from the 911 GT1 racer.
